Government Branches (of note)

Alnae Intelligence Corps (AIC)

The Alnae Intelligence Corps, A.I.C., is the great arm of Alnae's information resources. Almost every piece of intelligence that they ever acquire goes through this organization, this is so that otherwise unrelated or classified information has a chance to fall into the hands of other people who might need it. A military general can discover the location of something and not even care but it could be a vital clue to an investigation somewhere else. A.I.C. insures the information gets around. This is one of the most powerful and successful branches of the government and the vast expense and manpower required has been justified time and time again by its ability to give Alnae a seeming sense of omniscience. Modern computers have really helped them keep up with the job.

Because of the nature of the AIC they frequently hold power over all other branches of government, as the director of the AIC will often have access to information others aren't supposed to know about and while they cannot officially order other branches to do anything, its generally seen as a good idea to do as the director asks. The directors have the highest authority over information and it is illegal throughout the entire empire to withold any information from them, punishable by their personal discretion if they can prove guilt. This singular director may determine who is permitted to know what within the AIC in order to pick his assistants and insure information gets to where it needs to be regardless of being classified or not.

Covert Operations Agency (COA)

An overarching name and identifier for a series of agencies whether secret or not that has a monotonous badge across all of its many smaller agencies that it keeps track of. These agencies are allowed to operate in secret from the rest of Alnae, with the exception of the AIC's director. This particular privilege has drawn the suspicion of many citizens as it technically means they are allowed to operate illegally anywhere they want in any way they want as long as the AIC does not find their actions unjustifiable.

Known to players -

Beholder Agency: A direct servant of the AIC specializing in espionage. They are typically sent to find information from less then cooperative sources and include agents trained in infiltration and close quarters combat.

Displacer Agency: There is incredibly little evidence they exist but its almost common knowledge to citizens at this point because of the few times there have been evidence. The displacers are government assassins, and not much else is known about them as the AIC does a particularly good job making sure things stay quiet about their operations. Generally people are pretty sure they work both in the empire and outside of it.

Patriot Agency: Specifically charged with the investigation of Alnae politics for corruption and criminal activity. They also have sway over the voting of the Alnae council and have the power to veto an appointment to it, a privilege no councilor has. Its agents are mostly desk workers.

Section 314 "The Disposable Heroes"

One of the most famous military branches, and one that keeps popping up in the campaigns. Section 314 trains its special forces to do any job necessary, especially suicide missions. It was developed as a way to militarize shorter lived races for shorter terms of service. While it is the riskiest military branch, it has the best retirement package and shortest active service terms. It is full of humans, gnolls, dragonborn, and other races that don't live for centuries and are generally more willing to take the risk since they don't have as long of a lifespan to lose. The training program emphasizes a few core necessities to its tactics instead of overall military training that many longer lived, or less committed, recruits experience in other branches. Despite the high mortality rate, the success rate is also quite high and the 314 are infamously good at getting the job done.
