The Raptor was actually originally designed by pirates but its existence pushed a demand for frigates with more military hardware for the rough and tough adventurer. These frigates come with full warfare suites and less comfortable living quarters then might be considered normal on a frigates in exchange for maintaining a respectable cargo bay. They aren't as well suited for long term living or adventures because of this, but when the destination is just a known hop across the stars or a somewhat shady area it does the job well.
