Sahad

An unknowable and infinite type of magic discovered only after contacting galactic civilizations. Sahad magic is especially noteworthy because it is fueled by cosmic phenomena instead of more internal power sources like mana. Its wielders can draw power from stars, the empty vacuum of space, black holes, quasars, and much more. Even at the very basic level its users are observed to be capable of surviving in space without any life support or equipment to protect them. Eventually becoming able to walk upon stars and travel across the vastness of space with little to no effort.

Sahad has a very strange prerequisite in order to be learned. The aspiring student must witness it in use or look upon an artifact created by it. It is described as being impossible to convey with the words of humanoid language and as such they must witness it for their mind to comprehend what sahad really is. While it is extremely difficult to learn, it is still capable of being used for technology and some of the most cutting edge prototypes among ships are able to use the power of sahad for various affects. Sahad generators can convert sahad energy into electricity, since sahad is fueled by space itself that means the ship will have an infinite power source as long as it doesn't enter an atmosphere.

The effects of wielding sahad can vary wildly from one wielder to the next. A common misconception is that it corrupts the body like pandem magic does and forces change upon its wielder. In reality the reshaping of the body only occurrs when the wielder themselves attempt it. So it is not truly corrupting, just enticing. The reshaping of the wielder is a ritual of sorts undertaken by themselves to embrace the nature of sahad as a part of themselves, and the effects of this can vary wildly. Those who have been transformed enough to no longer classify as a member of their original species are known as avatars.

The culture surrounding sahad within the Sol system in particular is a general discomfort, as it is the only truly unknown form of power in the galaxy as they are aware of it. While Pandem is frowned upon, people know why they frown upon it. sahad is beyond comprehension of even its own practitioners, condemning them to unfathomable visions for the rest of their lives. The visions aren't necessarily horrifying, but seeing colors that don't exist is a trippy experience and can be unsettling or maddening at times. As a result while it is a respected field of practice, people tend to fear what they can't understand. Even the dark powers of necrocarnum can be quantified, but sahad transcends all known forms of measurement.
