Shen was mostly interested in the Miasma, since vampires can resist sunlight to an extent within it. As well as the creatures rumored to dwell within who have similarities to his kind. He is something of an explorer, though he's specifically looking to see how the horrors of the miasma stack up to the monsters of the old world - namely himself.

Among the members of the Andorah clan, Shen is noted for his lack of interest in establishing an income at all. While most in the clan would like to quickly amass wealth to invest in the frontier to expand the clan and its holdings to one day rival the riches of the old world vampires, Shen is really just here to study the new world.
