Desoir

The Desoir family is surprisingly young, their bloodline can only be traced as far back as 350 B.R. when they lost many of their elders in the War of Rising. They had never been that prominent until 1148 A.R. when Valencia Desoir started making bids for political and financial power using the small remnants of her family to assist her. The aristocratic family is now one of the most potent powers in the system, enough so that they often send Valencia herself to represent them in galactic politics alongside Alnae and Shetou.

Their power comes not from vampiric strength or powers, but the incredible cunning and smooth talking habits of Valencia and her blood-children. Her own maker resides simply as an advisor and executive officer for the Desoir family interests. Currently the Desoir family power still does not rest in their individual strength, indeed Valencia herself would be butchered if De'Rex or Sivataur could get their hands on her, but their extensive wealth buys protection better then even Alnae council members receive.

Almost everyone descended from the Desoir line stay members of the family and obey the demands of Valencia, though a few stray now and then they are forced to take a new name as not to have any hold within this family's great power. The Desoir family operates as its own faction, neither Shetou or Alnae have any hold over them but the Desoir have strong say in the politics of the empires thanks to the expansive businesses they control in both empires. So ingrained in both empires is the Desoir family corporations that if Valencia were to be successfully assassinated it is likely that both sides would suffer the lasting economic effects and pave way for even more empires to spring up and threaten their power.

Valencia herself is untouchable, even should someone wish to kill her she is guarded by two vampires of her own descent at all times. Though more notably is her permanent guard Nyrwntchalven, the silver dragon. Her personal chambers aboard her ship are massive just for that purpose, Nywntchalven is able to take his full form at any given moment to protect her. Atop her personal retinue her luxurious ship is armored thick enough to withstand nearly anything and surrounded by seven battlecruisers. The excess display of power has kept all but the bravest away, and turned the bravest into rubble.

This private fleet is known as the Desoir Fleet, a massive mobile hub of both trade and high level business. It is a small fraction of the military might she commands. Valencia once won a small war on the Rixa plane without ever sending a single ship there, she simply stifled the resources of one side until they had little more then sticks and crossbows while the enemy assaulted with very well equipped ships and tanks. Since then, many have sought her blessing before starting a war.

The Desoir family do not accept new members into their blood line, they instead use advanced magic and genetic science to produce offspring in labs based off of Valencia's DNA. This offspring is taught the family ways and depending on their rebellious teenage years if they will be accepted into the blood line.

As a result every desoir for the last 400 years are all locked into their early twenties, every single one of them a gorgeous sight to behold as was Valencia.

The family history may date back before the Era of rising but it is all irrellevant now, Valencia is the start of their true legacy. During the Dark Era the young vampire saw opportunities to gain financial and political power while everyone was paranoid of the Shetou and Alnae war. She escaped the attention of those that would normally have shut her down as they all focused on the terror of Shetou's assassinations. Starting out by simply using the small Desoir family fortune to buy out a few businesses she had researched.

The immortal vampire had great patience, and did not acquire a franchise for another 80 years. Once she did and filed for corporation under her family's name she bought a minor broadcasting network a few years later and carefully acquired unheard of shows she felt would appeal to the general public. With mostly successful choices the network started to gain more popularity until she could buy another for more serious uses such as news casting, which she invested a great deal more then necessary in. Soon she had built an intelligence network posing as a news station, causing little threat to her corporate competitors while still managing to investigate anything and everything.

Using this network she started to rapidly build her corporate empire, the undying bussinesswoman had an impressive memory as did every other member of her family. Within two hundred years of her first purchase she now owned enough of the economy to remain standing when others tried to put her back down, surprised how she had snuck up in the financial world. She started purchasing a variety of operations not for profit, but simple monopoly. It would take another hundred years before those purchases turned profitable but she had patience and because of that her empire slowly grew into a massive powerhouse.

She became embedded in almost every type of business. Even going as far as to have her genetically cloned son, Lysias Desoir, start to rise up in the black market as well. Today her family controls so much of the system's finance that their death would destablize almost everyone, even whatever assassin was hired to kill her. The old saying goes, "If you make money, Valencia owns you."
