There are several kinds of magic in Arcanist gear. Each one functions through different means, while sometimes they produce the same end results they usually take different paths to get there. Each type of magic has its own uses, advantages, disadvantages, and appeal. Magic isn't simple, very rarely will someone fully understand one branch yet alone multiple but it is possible. Magic has a unique place in Arcanist Gear, it is common enough that you might see it everywhere around you but only truly understood and wielded by masters of the craft. Compare it to the screen you're reading this from, you see them all the time and almost everyone has one. You know how to to turn it off and on. You might even know how pixels work but you probably don't know how to build one from raw materials.
There are wizards, sorcererors, mages, witches, and all sorts of ways to speak of one who wields raw magical power and are especially dedicated to learning the craft. Some branches are harder to learn to use then others, for example arcane is highly complex even though extremely common. Some are easy, such as Pandem which has little diversity in its application.
The most common of all magic, omnipresent throughout existence. Arcane magic is very versatile and can interact with most technology. It functions using an internal mana pool and can make or use enchantments more effectively then any other magic. It is an intelligence based magic and requires deep understanding to produce the desired effects.
Incarnum operates by drawing on the user's own soul and creates spiritual constructs with that soul allowing the user to utilize it in a variety of ways. Notably incarnum doesn't typically affect things far away from the wielder and cannot become ranged and leave the wielder without killing them. Incarnum has very little resource expending with no mana pool. It is a constitution based magic.
Often considered the cheapest magic, pandem is the art of channeling the power of other beings across planes of existence or even channeling the power of other planes itself by manipulating planar rifts. It has no attribute requirements and does not have variables based on attributes. It actively trades health to cast its effects.
Driven by sheer force of will and the ability to manifest that will upon the world. Psionic magic is known to be capable of programming complicated general intelligences though fails to bestow true sentience. It specializes in affecting the minds of others and some telekinetic abilities. Psionics utilize the willpower attribute and use the same mana pool as arcane magic.
Sahad was never known about in the Sol System until it made contact with beings from other regions of the galaxy. It is considered the magic of the cosmos. It is the one magic that science has so far yet to understand, to learn Sahad is described as gazing upon every concept that cannot be comprehended. It uses the perception attribute and functions with the same internal mana pool that arcane and psionics use, but restores it differently.
Zankou magic is the manipulation of the energy present within one's self. It is the most difficult of all magic to master. Zankou magic defies the laws of nature but adheres to its own rules that its practitioners can exploit, through martial skills instead of mental ones. It uses strength, constitution, and dexterity as its controlling attributes and has no resource pool to expend.
